A 3D WebAR reconstruction of Isny’s medieval watchtower, the Blaserturm.
The Blaserturm project explored how augmented reality can make historical architecture accessible in a modern, interactive way. One of Isny’s most recognizable landmarks, the medieval watchtower was digitally reconstructed in 3D and brought into the real world using browser-based AR technology. The goal was to allow people to experience the tower beyond photographs and historical descriptions.
The model was carefully recreated in Blender with attention to architectural structure, proportions, and surface details. Through a WebAR implementation built with JavaScript and WebXR technologies, users could place the reconstructed tower directly into their surroundings using a smartphone browser. This allowed residents, visitors, and students to explore the structure spatially and understand its form and presence in a more engaging way.
A strong focus of the project was accessibility. By using lightweight WebGL rendering and optimized textures, the experience runs smoothly on standard mobile devices without requiring dedicated apps or specialized hardware. This approach demonstrated how modern web technologies can transform cultural heritage into interactive digital experiences that anyone can access.

To visualize historical architecture interactively and bring heritage to life using modern tools.
The Blaserturm reconstruction turned historical research into an interactive digital experience. It showed how WebAR can be used not only for visual presentation but also for cultural preservation and public engagement. The project stands as a digital interpretation of the landmark — demonstrating how immersive technology can reconnect people with local history and make heritage tangible in the present.
