CityTale — Virtual City Stories

A VR experience bringing the stories of Isny im Allgäu to life through 3D heritage visualization.

CityTale is a virtual homage to the city of Isny im Allgäu, turning its streets, stories, and landmarks into an interactive journey through time. The project was developed using Unity, Blender, and XR frameworks for Windows and Android, creating a fully immersive environment that captures the cultural and architectural essence of the city. Each location was meticulously modeled in 3D, reconstructed from photos and historical references, and integrated into a VR world that users could explore freely. The key benefit was accessibility — allowing people to experience the city’s heritage without physical constraints. This not only promoted cultural preservation but also encouraged tourism and education through immersive storytelling. Technologies such as PBR texturing, dynamic lighting, and interactive triggers gave each virtual scene a lifelike and emotional presence, bridging the gap between history and modern engagement.

Where history becomes immersive.

Made with:

XR Development, 3D modeling, Unity/Blender, WebXR, Android/Windows compatibility

Goal:

To preserve and share the spirit of a city’s history through immersive digital experiences.

Summary:

CityTale embodies how virtual reality can preserve local identity while offering a new lens for storytelling. It shows that heritage doesn’t need to be locked in archives — it can be experienced, felt, and reimagined through digital craftsmanship. By translating the emotional core of Isny’s history into VR, the project set a creative foundation for blending urban memory, art, and technology — a direction that would later influence larger projects like ExpoXR.
